Obituary for Bettye Mobley

Bettye Mobley, 89, of Battle Creek, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 6, 2018 at Reflections Memory Care.
She was born on March 22, 1929 in Tennessee Ridge, Tennessee to Porter Lee Cook and Stella Jane (Irwin) Cook.
She is survived by her Husband of 68 years – James Virgil Mobley; son Bob (Sandy) Mobley; two daughters Sue (Jeff) Moore and Beth Hudgins; grandchildren, Brandy (Jace), Danny (Jaci), David (Sarah), Kristin, Sarah, and Leia; 7 great-grandchildren and a sister. She was preceded in death by her parents; 1 sister and 3 brothers.
After graduating from high school in Erin, Tennessee, Bettye then graduated from Belmont College for Women in Nashville, Tennessee. She and James Virgil raised three children and then Bettye began her banking career, retiring as a Vice President of Great Lakes Bank Corp. She was an active and dedicated member of First United Methodist Church of Battle Creek, serving on several committees. She was continually involved in many charitable causes in the community and could light up any room with her smile. Bettye was a prominent member of the Kiwanis Club of Battle Creek and became the first female president. She was a world traveler with her husband, an avid reader, competitive bridge player, and exhibited her southern hospitality by her outstanding meals she loved preparing for others.
Having married her childhood sweetheart upon his return from World War II, she and James Virgil modeled a love story of pure love and devotion. Their marriage was a role model not only to their family but to everyone around them.
Bettye’s family was her life. The unconditional love she gave to all members of her immediate and extended family was a source of incredible encouragement, with a beautiful spirit of generosity and joy. Her warm and welcoming personality made her circle of friends ever widening. She was a strong and supportive friend who could bring light and love into every circumstance.
A celebration of Bettye’s life and faith will be held at a later date. Internment will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery. Memorial donations in memory of Bettye may be made to: Alzheimer's Association, 200 Turwill Ln. Suite 6
