Obituary for Virginia Church (Martin)

Virginia Marie Church, 90, Battle Creek, Michigan died May 12, 2018. Ginny was born January 29, 1928 in Battle Creek. Her parents were Blaine and Leona Martin (Camburn). She was married to Harry M. Church in August, 1953. Harry preceded Ginny in death on July 7, 1995.
Ginny was a life-long employee of Kellogg's in the payroll department as a key punch operator. She had many friends among her coworkers and enjoyed their company while working as well as at functions outside of work such as picnics and other social events.
She and Harry enjoyed vacationing in their travel trailer in Saugatuck, Michigan and Angola, Indiana. They would spend weekends and extended vacations there talking around the campfire with friends and roasting marshmallows. In later years they stayed the winter in Florida.
Ginny enjoyed traveling the world and visited many places with her husband, Harry, or her brother Danny. Among her many destinations were Australia, New Zealand, Italy, China and Hawaii. She also enjoyed running 5k races into her 50's.
Ginny is survived by her two sons, Mel (Jeanne) and Marty (Alice) Church, her grandchildren, Matthew (Kristin) Church, Jessica (Kevin) Pollard, Holly (Eric) Bishop, Carter (Beth) Church, Erin (Devon) Wildig and Kirk Strobl.
She is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren, Ethan Church, Paxton Pollard, Harrison Bishop, Cyrus Bishop, Owen Bishop, Addy Church, Margot Church, Ashton Rench, Dylan Rench and Logan Rench, all of whom she loved dearly.
Ginny is also survived by Kera Buchanan and her husband, Rick. Ginny thought of Kera as a daughter and always appreciated the love and kindness that she and Rick extended to her over the years.
Ginny attended Central Christian Church all of her adult life and found spiritual comfort and life-long friendships there. Her pastor, Gordon Pippin and his wife, Carla, have been a comfort and a blessing to her throughout her life.
In her retirement years, Ginny experienced great joy watching the neighborhood children playing outside and waiting for the school bus. Many birds and squirrels will miss her daily offerings of suet, bread and seeds. If you ever saw her at the window with her monocular, she was watching the birds, not the neighbors.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the charity of ones choice.
A visitation followed by the service will be held at Central Christian Church, 713 Riverside Drive, Battle Creek, Michigan on May 16, 2018 at 10:00 am - 12:00 pm, with service starting at 12:00 pm. There will be a luncheon for family at the church following the burial at Fort Custer.
